gap Connah's Quay Nomads v TNSNomads U13's travelled to TNS for what is always anticipated to be a competitive fixture. The game started with both sides displaying a high level of commitment, as they battled competitively for every ball. The opening encounters set the scene for what was (in part) a frustrating, 'scruffy' game where neither side were able to properly get into their stride.

Despite asserting their dominance Nomads struggled to find their composure. Substitutes: (On) Steffan Knight - (Off) Toby Gallagher-Keenan in a straight positional swap. Throughout the first half Nomads continued to control the game - creating the better moves and seizing on poor TNS distribution at the back. However, the game continued to be a 'bitty' affair as some Nomads players sometimes kept hold of the ball too long - losing possession as they were subsequently harassed by the TNS midfield. At 25 minutes, substitutes (On) Matty Bland - (Off) Josh Williams and the game remained intensely competitive.
Nomads played the more coherent football in the opening stages moving quick, short balls but were pressed equally as quickly by TNS who looked to break-up any attempt by Nomads to spread the ball or build to a flowing move. Nomads slowly started to dominate possession - winning most 50-50 balls and challenges and developing the more consistent passing football. Jack Hughes, Dominic Jenkins, Josh Williams and Ollie Johnson started to make possession count as they moved balls from the centre of the pitch forward to Toby Gallagher-Keenan and Kane Edwardson. Indeed, within 15 minutes Edwardson seized on a good ball from Johnson and broke with a strong run in to the TNS 18 yard box only to have his shirt pulled at the neck by a TNS defender and as a result won for a penalty.

First-half closed 0-1 to Nomads with Tipper seeing his free-kick just going over the bar; trialist Sean coming on for Steffan Knight; and Matty Bland beginning to make an impact in the closing stages. Second-half started with a demand from coaches to spread the ball as TNS were playing predominantly in the centre of the park. Nomads formation changed to 3 centre-halves (Tipper, Atkinson and Wiliams) at the back; Johnson and Hughes in midfield; Toby Gallagher-Keenan playing just in front in an attacking midfield role; right-wing Steffan Knight; left-wing Kane Edwardson and playing as strikers Matty Bland and Sean. (Edwardson substituted shortly afterwards by Jenkins). Nomads started the second half intending to maintain their earlier tempo and a great ball from midfield by Callum Tipper fell neatly for trialist Sean who, driving into the 18 yard box saw his curving shot beat the keeper but just glance of the TNS post. Occasional counter-attacks by TNS demonstrated they were still a threat but our defense dealt with these incursions effectively.

Ollie Johnson took the penalty but sent the spot kick over the bar. At the back Tom McCartan, Callum Tipper, Matty Atkinson (Wing-Back) and James Tyson (Wing-Back) contained the occasional TNS attacks and Goalkeeper - Atkinson, Tipper and Tyson venturing forward on occasion whilst McCartan held central defense. Will Ebbrell (Goalkeeper) was hardly troubled as the Nomads defence soaked-up any TNS threat. Nomads pressure started to tell shortly after the penalty as Domonic Jenkins picked up on a ball from Josh Williams and drove to the by-line lobbying fine cross beyond the jumping TNS keeper to provide a simple 'tap-in' for Ollie Johnson from just 2 yards out with around 15 minutes gone.
